Certificate in Spiritual Transformation

OVERVIEW

The Certificate in Spiritual Transformation identifies the completion of a learning process that guides leaders in an experience of spiritual transformation in the context of a Transforming Community®through the Transforming Center.  This two-year process seeks to develop a holistic approach to spiritual transformation in the life of the leader so that spiritual leadership will flow naturally from the transformation they are experiencing in their own life.  We believe that real change takes place incrementally over time with others. Thus, the method of learning is highly experiential and includes substantive teaching, readings and written reflections on spiritual formation themes, guided experiences in classic Christian disciplines, and significant engagement in community with other leaders.

CERTIFICATE REQUIREMENTS

  • Attend 9 retreats*
  • Practice the disciplines in-between retreats
  • Complete required readings
  • Complete and submit written assignments
  • Participate in group spiritual direction (assigned groups remain consistent throughout the two years)
  • Complete and submit final project that clearly outlines one’s personal rule of life
  • Engage in spiritual direction or spiritual friendship
  • Complete and submit A Time for Noticing evaluation within 2 weeks of the final retreat.

Continuing Education Units (CEU's)

Transforming Center Continuing Education Units are available for $450 for the completed two-year process. CEU's are given by the Transforming Center and can be used to document your continued development as a spiritual leader. The 90 CEU's will be awarded upon completion of the 9 retreats and the requirements for the Certificate in Spiritual Transformation (listed above). To be awarded the CEU's, please notify the Transforming Center office of your intent and submit payment by check or online anytime prior to the end of the 7th retreat.

*If one retreat is missed, the participant will be allowed to substitute a seven-to-ten page reflection on the discipline of that retreat in order to demonstrate their completion of the assigned readings and their practice of the disciplines taught and experienced at that retreat. Guidance will be offered for the written reflection.

Sioux Falls Seminary

For those interested earning academic credit in concert with their Transforming Community experience, we are pleased to inform you that the Transforming Center has formed a partnership with Sioux Falls Seminary, located in Sioux Falls, SD. Through the Kairos Project, an alternative educational track, participants in a Transforming Community® can fully integrate their transforming leadership journey with one of several academic options, including a graduate certificate, Master of Arts (Bible and Theology), Master of Arts in Christian Leadership, Master of Divinity, or Doctor of Ministry. Each option provides students with an opportunity to focus their studies in spiritual transformation while providing them a mentor team to customize the entire educational journey.

These certificates and degrees are comparatively affordable, accessible from anywhere (some degrees require intensives on campus), relevant to the context of the student, and faithful to God’s call to an ongoing process of transformation. This structure allows students to pursue their degree or certificate while staying fully active in ministry, invested in their day-to-day lives, and committed to a life of missional engagement.

All accepted Transforming Community applicants must also apply to Sioux Falls Seminary. There is no set deadline for applications, as Transforming Community applicants may apply prior to the launch of their communities, at any time during their communities, or even after the completion of their communities.

For more information about this opportunity through the Transforming Center please contact David Hughes at dhughes@transfromingcenter.org.
