A Transforming Community® is a group of approximately 70 pastors and Christian leaders who commit themselves to nine quarterly retreats over a two-year time frame for the purpose of experiencing deeper levels of spiritual transformation.

How is it with your soul?

Jesus indicates that it is possible to gain the whole world but lose your own soul. If Jesus were talking to Christian leaders today, he might point out that it is possible to gain the world of ministry success and lose your own soul in the midst of it all

Sooner or later pastors and ministry leaders reach a place where they realize their natural gifts and abilities aren’t going to carry them where they need to go in their leadership. They may be aware that they are dangerously tired—indeed, they are running on empty—but have no idea what to do about it. Or that they have been leading primarily from the demands of their own egos, rather than a deep centeredness in God.

Many of us enter into leadership believing our gifts, skills, competencies and training are what others are looking for. While all of these are important, something far more significant is needed if we are to be effective and fruitful for the long haul of leadership.

A leadership truth and its sobering flip side

The Transforming Community is designed for...
  • Senior pastors/clergy
  • Pastoral staff
  • Members of your church's decision-making body (elders, deacons, vestry, session, consistory)
  • Business leaders
  • Leaders of ministry organizations
  • Denominational executives

Whatever is healthy, functional and transforming within us will find its way into all aspects of our leadership. But here’s the sobering flip side: whatever is unhealthy, dysfunctional and untransformed within us will also find its way into our churches and organizations and we will end up bringing pain and deformation to the communities we are seeking to serve.

The best thing you bring to leadership is your own transforming self

Spiritual leadership emerges from our souls. This is the place where God is present to us, stirring up our deepest questions and longings to draw us deeper into relationship with Him.

People change incrementally....over time...with others...in the context of spiritual disciplines that open us to God. The two-year Transforming Community experience guides leaders in learning how to pay attention to what’s going on in their own souls so they can lead from that place.

Are you ready to forge a deeper connection between your soul and your leadership, develop rhythms to sustain your life in leadership, and learn how to lead from your transforming self?

The Transforming Community experience might be the most important leadership decision you’ve made in a long time.
